The Significance of Early Modern European Prints on View at Krannert Art Museum

September 26, 2025

The Krannert Art Museum presents “Imagination, Faith, and Desire: Art and Agency in European Prints, 1475–1800,” an exhibition of over 100 rare early modern European prints loaned from private collections. It showcases how prints became Europe’s first visual mass media, profoundly influencing politics, religion, knowledge, and artistic identity. Curated by Maureen Warren, the show highlights masterpieces by Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, and others, exploring themes like creativity, religious imagery, daily life, gender, and sexuality. The exhibition runs from September 25 through February 28 and is paired with a symposium on gender and sexuality in premodern prints.
